About FileFlex
A privacy-first image converter, built for the open web.
What is FileFlex?
FileFlex is a free, browser-based image converter and compressor. It converts between popular image formats — WebP, JPEG, and PNG — and lets you resize images, all without uploading a single byte to a server.
Why we built it
Most online image converters work the same way: you upload your file to a remote server, wait for it to be processed, then download the result. That's fine for a photo of your lunch — but it's a serious privacy problem for anyone handling client work, medical images, personal documents, or anything sensitive.
We built FileFlex because we believe you shouldn't have to hand your files over to a stranger's server just to change their format. Modern browsers can do the entire job locally, using your own device's processor. So we let them.
How it works
FileFlex uses two native browser technologies:
- The FileReader API — reads your selected image into browser memory (never sent anywhere).
- The HTML5 Canvas API — draws the image, resizes it if requested, and re-encodes it in your chosen format and quality.
The result is handed back to you as a downloadable file, generated entirely on your machine. When you close the tab, every trace of the file is gone from memory.
What we don't do
- We don't upload your files.
- We don't store your files.
- We don't require an account, an email, or any personal information.
- We don't sell or share your data — because we don't collect any.
- We don't watermark or alter your images beyond the conversion you asked for.
How we keep the lights on
FileFlex is supported entirely by non-intrusive display advertising (via Google AdSense). Because the tool runs entirely on your device, our hosting costs are near zero — which means we can keep the service free forever and never charge for conversions.
Who we are
FileFlex is a small independent project built and maintained by a solo developer. We're not a company — we're just someone who got tired of uploading private files to random servers just to change a format. If you find a bug or have a feature request, we'd love to hear from you on our contact page.
